LOOKING FOR LOVE - ADOPTIONS

Our Rescue Pets Looking for Love

All of our cats are fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered, microchipped, tested for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus and dewormed. If a kitten, these services will be provided as part of the rescue program as the kitten ages.

The minimum adoption fee (please contact us for amount) goes towards our Animal Rescue Fund. Our cats are placed in indoor housecat homes unless they have been specifically deemed barn cat adoptees due to poor litterbox habits.

Marla

Marla

Marla came to us as a very frightened adult female cat. She lived at the clinic initially while we screened her for Feline Leukemia and FIV (she's negative) and updated her vaccinations and deworming. Now she is fostering with our RVT Miranda where she has integrated into their multi-cat home beautifully. She is very shy initially but has become a fully fledged family member at Miranda's and loves her cuddles.

Marla is an adult female - hard to know her age - she has very serious dental issues and many of her teeth were missing. She is having a dental with us to extract any other teeth that are painful or infected for her. Marla probably suffered from stomatitis which caused the premature loss of many of her teeth but it's hard for us to know for sure. Her bloodwork and urine are all normal. We are guessing she is 5-8 years old.

Marla would love to find a permanent family of her own - she will just need a bit of time and good hiding spot while she adjusts to her new home.

Calling all Negative Donors!

Just like humans, dogs have different blood types. The type we focus on most is Dog Erythrocyte Antigen (DEA) 1. Dogs are either DEA 1 Positive or DEA 1 Negative - and that matters a lot when it comes to safe transfusions.

Dogs with DEA 1 Negative blood are sometimes referred to as "universal donors" since their blood can be used in emergencies where the patient's blood type isn't known. For this reason, DEA 1 Negative blood is always in high demand.

Certain dog breeds are more likely to be DEA 1 Negative (you can find a breed list on our website), but only a small percentage of the overall dog population has this blood type. This means meeting the demand for DEA 1 Negative blood is an ongoing challenge - particularly during certain times of year.

We typically see a drop in available canine donors in late fall/winter, when the weather gets cold and families get busy with holidays. While every blood donation helps save lives, we are always looking for new negative donors to join the pack.

Accidents and illnesses don't take a break. If your dog is DEA 1 Negative and can donate this fall/winter, please reach out to register for a clinic near you. Dogs who meet our donor criteria can donate every three months.
